Paul Cudby left new signing from Sheffield Wednesday Nicole Dale on the bench for this WPL fixture which City needed to win to keep in touch with leaders Sunderland and Leeds United. City had a good chance in the 13th minute when a corner was headed onto her own bar by Hills and the visting keeper grabbed as Courtney Sweetman-Kirk followed up. With the Sky Blues not being able to retain possession, Watford grew stronger and took the lead in the 21st minute when the excellent Sarah Wiltshire sent her inswinging corner over the hand of City keeper Sarah Morgan and into the net. The Sky Blues forced three corners in a row before Wiltshire struck the post in the 39th minute and then forced Morgan to push over her twenty yarder on the stroke of half-time. An ten minute spell of pressure by City at the start of the second half was soon ended by Morgan having to push over a Jo Wilson shot and then pick the ball out of the net when Megan Wynne beat her in the 59th minute to put the Hornets two goals up. With the floodlights on and the rain pouring down, Katy Male pulled one back for City with a low twenty yarder but in the 81st minute, Sarah Wiltshire made the most of some calamitous defending to give Watford a 3-1 victory. City are at home to Barnet next Sunday and all Coventry City season ticket holders get into the game free of charge on production of their season ticket.
