City Ladies win again

Coventry City Ladies did the double over Charlton Athletic with a 2-0 away win this afternoon

With leading scorer Maz Gauntlett out until the New Year with a knee ligaments injury sustained in the 1-0 win over Reading last Sunday, the Sky Blues welcomed back Leanne McKenna who rejoined the squad after coming through sixty minutes of a reserve game versus Sunderland last week.

At Thamesmead Town this afternoon, Early pressure from the Sky Blues ended with a shot over bar by Jade Formaston. Charlton, who had lost 1-0 to City earlier in the season, went up the other end and forced Sue Wood into a great two handed save from a corner.

City then took the lead in the 17th minute when Kerry Bartlett squared to Helen Dermody who feds Jade Formaston who beat her marker before despatching the ball into top corner from 22 yards.

When the second half restarted, City doubled their tally when Dermody's cross was met by the head of Courtney Sweetman-Kirk.

They could have added more to their tally and to have beaten a side like Charlton Athletic home and away shows how far the club have come.
