Captain Carsley urges fans to keep returning
City skipper keen to keep the recent good support. Coventry City captain Lee Carsley has urged the fans to keep up with their support of the club. Attendances have been disappointing this season except for last Saturday when a crowd of 28,184 watched City go down to a 2-3 defeat to Leeds. Carsley admits his side failed to perform to their best during the first half, but was pleased with the second half fightback. He takes his Coventry side to Nottingham Forest this evening hoping that they can play well from the kick off to the final whistle and get a result. Reflecting on last Saturday's game Carsley said, “I think the fans can appreciate that second half against Leeds, which was exciting if nothing else and will have gone home thinking they had seen a game.” Asked about te big crowd and whether the club can continue to attract such large crowds, he said, “Everyone is entitled to their opinion but one thing that might have happened in the past in big games is the lads have maybe not performed, but I think we performed against Leeds but just left it a bit late." “We were camped in their half for the majority of the second half and if we had got an equaliser we would have perhaps gone on to win it. I really enjoyed the game because it felt like a proper match." "There was a fantastic buzz going to the ground and seeing all the fans coming back and what I would say to them is, stick with us. Some people may still be pessimistic about things but let’s see what happens over the next couple of weeks, but we really felt the benefit of having a near full house there. That’s how it should be at the Ricoh." "Coventry has got a fantastic history, both in the football club and the city, of fighting against the odds and this team has got a lot of character and it is only going to get better. We are still very much evolving as a team." "We are only 15 games into the season and as we stand I really believe that we are still only playing at 70 per cent. I honestly believe there is a lot more to come from this team.”
