Boothroyd waiting on Westwood results
Ireland definitely out Coventry City will travel to Doncaster today without Danny Ireland, who tore a thigh muscle shortly after replacing Kieren Westwood in goal last Saturday. City boss Aidy Boothroyd is awaiting the results of a scan on Westwood's injury before deciding whether to risk just taking Michael Quirke as the only goal keeper or whether to try to find an emergency loan 'keeper should Westwood be ruled out. Westwood was forced off at half time in the heavy defeat at home to Bristol City at the weekend and he underwent scans yesterday afternoon in an attempt to find out why he suffered from spasms in his leg. He was replaced at half time by Danny Ireland, but not long into the second half he too suffered an injury which turned out to be a torn thigh muscle. That leaves Boothroyd with the 19 year old Michael Quirke as his only fit goalkeeper and he will almost certainly be on the bus to Doncaster today, but whether he will play remains to be seen as Boothroyd is expected to try to draft in a loan 'keeper should Westwood fail his fitness test this morning. If he does fail the test, Boothroyd will have until midday today to sign an emergency replacement goalkeeper. Quirke made his senior debut for Coventry City earlier in the season when he replaced on Everton's Iain Turner, who was drafted in on loan when Westwood was injured early in the season, at Watford. Apart from making a mistake that led to the opening Watford goal, Quirke pulled off some very fine saves which helped his side earn a creditable 2-2 draw. Boothroyd said, “We will assess Kieren in the morning and hope that there is no long term damage and that he can play, but if not then I will look to get someone in to help us out. Michael is fit and available for the bench but Danny is definitely out.”
