Boothroyd to shift training emphasis

Move from fitness to tactics and technical training Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd is to alter the pre season traing regime now the squad had returned to Coventry from their Austrian training camp. Boothroyd has centred his training of his players on fitness so far, but now he will turn his training methods more to the tactical and technical side of football. Coventry have a friendly game away to neighbours Nuneaton on Wednesday evening and Hinkley on Saturday Boothroyd said, “The Nuneaton and Hinkley games will be tough for us because their guys will want to come out and put on a good show. We have to be professional and make sure we continue the good work we have been doing and play some good, attacking football and score some goals." “The main thing is we have got no injuries after a really tough week because you are always panicking a little bit when it has been so intense and we have been over-stretching them by training three times a day, and I am just pleased to get it out of the way."  “We can now let them have a little rest for a couple of days and then intensify the training again and take them to another level, so all in all I am really, really pleased with the trip. They have been on their last legs but that’s what you want, to get them to a position where you stress them and work them so hard that they have got nothing left to give, and then when they recover again you can push their energy systems higher, so it has been well worth it.2 "We are not there yet and I think we have got a few to add, but when you look what we have got in terms of depth and positions I don’t think we are that far away from being a really good team. Keeping clean sheets and scoring goals is something I want us to become renowned for, so it has been a very good first ten days and the whole thing has been terrific.” Boothroyd was happy with the outcome of the training in Austria and he said, “I have been absolutely delighted with the trip." " It is a little bit early to come on tour but the fact that I am new and didn’t know the players and staff particularly well it came as a good opportunity living in each other’s pockets for a week to get to know them and I have to say we have got an absolutely superb staff here who are very professional and want to do well and get the club going and to be successful again and the players as well, we have got good foundations to build on in a lot of positions."
