Boothroyd targets Pompey scalp

Coventry manager Aidy Boothroyd will be short of sympathy for Portsmouth on Saturday as he looks to compound their current woes by taking all three points at the Ricoh Arena. Cash-strapped Pompey, relegated from the Premier League, could potentially go out of business if Thursday's High Court attempt by HMRC to block a Company Voluntary Agreement - designed to help the club out of administration - goes against them. Boothroyd, who is looking to build Coventry slowly and surely, said: "I don`t know if I feel any sympathy for them, that`s the way the game is these days. It seems to be a boom and bust situation where people chase the dream and sometimes they chase it without perhaps thinking about the consequences. "For English football in general it would be nice if we all competed on a level playing field but that doesn`t happen. Because of that and the way the game is, a lot of money comes into the game, you`ve got to be very careful how you spend it. That`s just the situation Portsmouth find themselves in for a number of different reasons." Regarding Saturday`s encounter, he added: "I`m like everybody else, I`m not quite sure what to expect from Portsmouth because we know they still have some wonderful players left at the club. The club`s in turmoil financially and in many cases that can work for the team, it can galvanise you. "So I`m not quite sure what`s going to come out of the gates but we`ll prepare for a Premier League team who are having their first season in the Championship for a while. We know it`s going to be a difficult game."
