Boothroyd still hunting for X-factor players
Premiership class needed. Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd had said he is stepping up the search for that X-factor player he thinks he need to inspire his Sky Blues to success in the coming season. Boothroyd has long insisted he wants to get two Premiership forwards in on loan and an experienced centre half on a permanent deal. He has signed Lee Carsley last week on a one year deal, so he has found his experienced centre half. He has had a loan deal for Everton striker Lukas Jutkiewicz rejected, but has moved to secure his signature in a permanent deal and if this is successful, that will leave just one more Premiership striker for Boothroyd to find. Speaking before the news broke about the cash offer made by City chairman Ray Ranson for Jutkiewicz, Boothroyd said, “We are still a bit short in terms of players and depth and what I think we need to fulfil our aspirations this season. So we will keep working on the training ground and keep working on the telephone. “I don’t know when that will be resolved. Any time during the transfer window you try to bring players in and there are a lot of things to consider. But we are doing OK so far.” For the first time in the pre season programme a City striker scored a goal. Freddy Eastwood and Shaun Jeffers grabbed the two goals that secured a comfortable victory over Walsall on Saturday. “I am especially pleased for Freddy because he took his goal well and is working really hard,” said Boothroyd. “He is closing down, trying to play on shoulders and trying to get in between defenders, so he has been a real handful and I was really pleased with him. “We also had a goal disallowed and hit the crossbar, but it was a very even game and one of those games that you want going into a season because you know you will be tested. We threw a few punches and got a few thrown back at us, so I was pleased.”
