Boothroyd sets safety target

Manager Aidy Boothroyd insists Coventry must get to 53 points as quickly as possible to secure their Championship status before they look to finish the season with a flourish. The Sky Blues found themselves in fifth place at the start of December but a run of just one win in 15 league games has left them languishing in 18th spot on 41 points - four places and seven points above the drop zone. Asked whether he thinks Coventry are in a relegation scrap, Boothroyd paused thoughtfully before responding: "We can`t rely on other teams is probably the best way to put that. "We can`t rely on three teams to be a lot worse than we are. As I`ve said before, there`s lots of positives here throughout the season but there are reasons for what has happened and the place we find ourselves in now. But what we need to do is to get points on the board. "I think the Hull game, Preston and Burnley are big games for us. That`s not putting any pressure on the players, it`s where we find ourselves. Then we have the international break and then we`re in the run-in. We`ve got to make sure we have an enjoyable April. We want to finish on a high, we want to finish better than last year, it`s really important." Is the immediate mindset to get to that magic points total? Boothroyd replied: "Absolutely, as fast as we can, definitely. I think it`s going to be about 52/53 points."
