Boothroyd on the Derby game
City boss ponders the ups and downs Coventry City's 39 year old boss Aidy Boothroyd has been reflecting on Saturday's home 2-1 win against Derby. He praised the last minute save from his goalkeeper Keiren Westwood, whose world class save kept out Dean Moxey's shot to make sure City finished the game will all three points. “It was a great save from a man who, in my opinion, is without doubt the best goalkeeper in this league,” said the Sky Blues boss,“He pulled one out of the top corner and I’m thrilled because that was the difference between us having three points instead of just one." “I’m under no illusions, what we got today we got through sheer grit and organisation rather than fabulous football. Derby were excellent today. They keep the ball really well and hypnotise you with it, try to catch you out, get you to ball watch and then pick you off." "They opened us up at times because they looked like a team that’s been together for a little while,we looked like what we are, a work in progress with a manager who’s only a couple of months into the job." “I think we can do better at the back and get better up front and we need a little bit of work in the middle as well but all the way through the team I think they understand the requirements, physical and mental of what we need." “They’re getting to know what I’m after and I’m getting to know what they can do, what they think they can do and what they’re capable of. That will take time but once it all clicks into place I think we’re going to be a good side." “The positives so far are that we can win when we don’t play particularly well and we can overcome adversity to get back into games. They are two prerequisites for being successful so I’m really looking forward to January and February when we will hopefully be winning games by performing well.”
