Boothroyd: League comes first

Boss Aidy Boothroyd is adamant league matters will always take priority for Coventry although he would not say no to a good cup run alongside a successful Championship campaign. The Sky Blues travel to Morecambe on Tuesday for their Carling Cup first-round tie, a match which will raise the curtain on the League Two club`s new £12million Globe Arena. Boothroyd`s side started their 2010/11 campaign with an impressive 2-0 league win over Portsmouth on Saturday and Boothroyd insists results like that will take precedence over cup glory. "(A cup run is) not as important as a good league position, league always come first for me," he said. "Carling Cups and FA Cups are great if you have a run in them but never at the detriment of the league. The league must always come first and that is something we need to put right here." Boothroyd is expecting a tough test from the Shrimps, adding: "They got to the play-off final last year with a late run, they`re a big side, they`re an organised side and they will be a very difficult side. "They`re in a new stadium, sometimes that can be a problem for a team having moved away from the place where they play normally. But I think it will be a very difficult game and we`ll approach it as I approach all games and we`ll look to try and win it. We`ll make sure we respect our opposition."
