Coventry to sing new goal keeper Coventry City boss Aidy Boothroyd has revealed that he will give the young Australian goal keeper Lawrence Thomas a contract in January. Thomas has been training with the Coventry City squad since the summer and Boothroyd is keen to make his move permanent. “He is here on a non contract basis and we will look to see if we can do something in January providing every box is ticked, but that’s not quite done yet,” said Boothroyd. “I do rate him highly but it has been a long process because there have been a lot of things behind the scenes that have needed to be in alignment and they haven’t been, but we are hoping to get that sorted.” Thomas spent the summer pre season with Coventry City and made some appearances in goal. He will join fellow compatriot Danny Ireland, who is the current understudy to Kieren Westwood. Westwood's contract with Coventry City expires in the summer of 2011 and the 25 year old Irish international has refused to sign a new and improved contract and so looks likely to be leaving The Ricoh either in January for a nominal fee, or in the summer on a Bosman free transfer.
