Boothroyd after experienced central defender
City miss out on Collins Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has admitted that he is still looking to bring in up to four or five more new players before the start of the new season. One of which will be an experienced central defender. On the face of it, City are well off for central defenders with Wood, McPake, Cranie and Turner as well as academy graduates Grandison and Cameron, but the club lost Wright and Barnett and Boothroyd is keen to get in at least one more experienced central defender. Boothroyd had hoped to tempt Preston defender Neil Collins to the club, but he opted to join Leeds United instead. He had been on loan the the Eland Road club for part of last season. Boothroyd admitted, “We possibly need another centre half so there are maybe three or four more yet to come in. I am not close to anything at the moment but I still think we do need a couple of front men and we need another wide player. Other than that everything else is pretty steady.” When asked about Collins, Boothroyd said, “I like Neil, who is a good player who would certainly fit the bill here, but Leeds have got in and he has decided to go there." “At this time of the season you have two or three targets and you have your number one, number two and number three and you make calls about people knowing that you might not get your first choice so you look at your number two, but he was one of the three players who I thought would make a difference here.”
