Boothroyd admits he might sign King
"I have spoken to him." says Boothroyd Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has admitted for the first time that he might sign disgraced striker Marlon King. King is available on a free transfer after being sacked by his former club Wigan after he was convicted and jailed for sexual assault. The 30 year old striker was released on licence from prison last month after serving 9 months of an 18 month sentence and according to his agent, he has attracted interest from several clubs. Boothroyd was King's manager when both were at Watford and the club won promotion to the Premiership and he regularly scored in excess of 20 goals a season when Watford were in the Championship. With Boothroyd now in charge at Coventry it was inevitable that King would be linked with a move to the club, especially as the manager is still looking for another striker to wear the coveted number 9 shirt. The Sky Blues and London club QPR have emerged as the two front runners to sign King. Boothroyd has always played down the talk of signing King, but Mirror Football are reporting that Boothroyd might now be preparing to offer King a deal. Boothroyd said, "I have spoken to him. I think we are still a couple of players away from how I would like it and I would expect us to add a couple more before the deadline." "I am sure in the next few weeks Marlon will make a decision on where he wants to play and I am sure at some time or another me and him will have a sit down. I am sure he will ask my opinion because we have a relationship from those times at Watford."
