Bates in no rush to sell Beckford

Beckford, who struck 34 goals last season, has been placed on the transfer list after recently refusing a new three-year deal, but still has 12 months to run on his current contract. The striker has already been linked with moves to Newcastle, Middlesbrough and Coventry. But Bates told the club's official website: "We've had no enquiries yet, but that is not unusual at this time because the season has just ended and most managers, scouts and coaches are away winding down. "They come back in the middle of June and start thinking. But we are in no hurry. Jermaine is with us until June 2010 and if we don't get what we consider to be a reasonable offer we will keep him." Bates added the club "don't have to beg anyone" to join them this summer as top target Sam Sodje decides whether to accept a permanent deal at Elland Road following his successful loan spell towards the end of the season. Bates added: "He has done well for us after he joined us in January but, again, he has to decide what he wants to do. The great thing about Leeds is that we don't have to beg anyone to join us or stay with us. We're in the driving seat."
