Coventry City manager Steven Pressley has described Adam Barton as an integral part of the club.
Under City's array of managers last season, Barton was in and out of the side and left to produce some of his best football for City U21's.
Speaking to the Coventry Telegraph's Alan Poole, Steven Pressley, who delayed the departure of the team coach from Fleetwood on Wednesday night in order to speak to supporters, said: “Adam’s an integral part of the future of this club,
“He’s very easy on the eye and nobody has ever doubted his football ability. There are certain aspects of his game we have to improve, but he understands that.
“At the tail-end of last season we worked on his defensive organisation and I’ve seen an improvement in that.
“He’s really looked after himself in the summer and if we can bring it all together we have a wonderful player on our hands.
“In the modern game it’s much more about pressing and playing with high energy and Adam’s got that ability because he’s a very fit boy and very mobile.
“I think he could be a key player for us this season and I’m really excited about the midfielders we’ve got at our disposal.
“John Fleck is another great young player and Conor Thomas has come back in incredible condition.
“At the end of last season we were seeing real signs of the player I know we have – a wonderful athlete who is very good on the ball.”
