Baker could play 11 days after operation Coventry City midfielder Carl Baker could make a surprise return to action against Norwich City on Saturday, just eleven days after undergoing a hernia operation. Baker was flown to Munich in Germany to have the operation done by a world leading hernia specialist Dr Ulrike Muschaweck. Dr Muschaweck expertise has been called on for many footballers, including Alan Shearer and Michael Owen. Coventry City manager Aidy Boothroyd has not yet decided whether to pick Baker for the visit of The Canaries to The Ricoh, but his doctor has said he should be ready to return to football by then. Boothroyd said, “It’s touch and go for Carl, but the fact that we’re even considering it is unbelievable really." // '); // ]]> “Hernias can be very tricky.  Danny Ward had his operation over two months ago and he’s still not quite right, but the German lady seems to think Carl should be available for selection on Saturday and as she’s the best there is and has done the operation thousands of times it’s looking very promising.” Dr Ulrike Muschaweck started to  specialise in hernia operations  over 15 years ago and in the process developed the minimally invasive technique known as the Munich Repair. The services of Dr Muschaweck are far from cheap, but Bothroyd clearly thought the cost worthwhile and he persuaded the club chairman Ray Ranson that the operation would be  cost effective because the player would not be out for week while he recovered.
