Aron Looking To Keep The Middle Ground
Gunnarsson on playing in the centre of midfield Coventry City midfielder Aron Gunnarsson has said that he wants to keep his role in the centre of midfield.The Icelander has filled the role for the last two matches whilst Lee Carsley has been out and has said that he would like this to continue."Obviously I am trying my hardest to stay in the middle and I think I am good enough," said Gunnarsson to the CT. "I am enjoying it after having got used to playing out wide. "We have got Sammy Clingan coming back after injury but Lee Carsley is injured now so hopefully I will get my chance to play and I will do my best to keep my place because it is my favourite position and I want to play there.""The manager has made a lot of changes because of injuries and things and I think people have stepped up in the last couple of games. "We played well in the first half against Palace in the Cup but as the gaffer said after that, we need to keep going for 90 minutes and not just 45. "I think we did that against Sheffield apart from ten minutes after the break and then we came strong again from Gary McSheffrey's free-kick."We did well and we should be really pleased with the performance, if not the result. "We were left wondering how we didn't win the game because we played so well and just couldn't get a goal. "We had 15 corners in the first half and I have never been in a game since I have been here almost three years ago when we have bossed the game like that."I can remember my first game for Coventry when I was really nervous but we controlled that game and won 2-0 but after that I can't remember anything like Saturday's game and I hope the fans are really happy with how we are playing football."It is just disappointing that we didn't get the goal to win but I definitely think we are on the way to bigger and better things. "We feel we are harder to beat than we were last season so I think we are going the right way."Speaking about the change to fast flowing football, Gunnarsson said: "The first half of the season we were bombing the ball forward and I don't think we always knew what the gaffer expected of us. "But he said to us he is not asking us to just hit it forward and hope for the best and that he wants to see us playing good football as well."He wants us to play to win but show a bit of quality as well because we know we can play football. "Michael Doyle and I just sat there and gave it to the wingers who did their job really well by getting their crosses in.
