Alan Brazil Meets The Diamond Club
City old boy entertains the Diamond Club The Coventry City Diamond Club held their third lunch of the year this afternoon at the Ricoh Arena. One hundred and fifty members and guests were welcomed by Chairman Tom Dentith. Guests today included City statistician Jim Brown, Ian Wallace, Ronnie Farmer, Ken Brown and the special guest former City striker Alan Brazil, who made 15 appearances scoring twice. After the members and guests had watched a This Is Your Life with Alf Wood and enjoyed an excellent lunch, Alan Brazil was interviewed by Joe Elliott. Alan said about his back injury and the fact that he could not sit on the bench at Manchester United, so when Don Mackay came in and said Terry Gibson was going the other way. Brazil joined City for half a season before Jim Smith came in for me. He signed for QPR but his career was over at the age of 27. His career had started at Glasgow Boys Club before he was offered a trial at Ipswich. Brazil spoke genuinely about Sir Bobby Robson and the way he ran the club and also spoke about his Scotland career which included his first goal against Wales and his time in Australia. He thought the Ricoh was a stunning stadium and that was nothing to compare in it with in the Championship but it was a shame that City did not get all the finance from the stadium.
