City Academy boss on FA Youth Cup tie

Coventry City Academy boss Gregor Rioch feels that tonight’s FA Youth Cup tie against Bristol Rovers will be a great opportunity for his players.

City travel to the Memorial Ground in Bristol, top of the Academy League Group B table and Rioch, who was in the Millwall squad which beat Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Youth Cup Final in the 1990’s, told Sky Blue Player: "It is a great opportunity for our lads to show how far they have come this season and the progression which is going on throughout the side this season.

"Should be a great opportunity for the lads to play under the floodlights of a first-team side and also in front of our manager and first-team staff who are coming to watch.

"Its our first chance to make a first impression on the competition and we want to make sure it isn't our last impression.

"Me and (Lee) Carsley went down to watch them play AFC Wimbledon in the last round and they were very impressive.

"They look good going forward and with them top of their table at the moment, they are full of confidence. We have to be fully aware of the threat they pose and make sure we aren't caught out.

"Hopefully it won't be a one-off and get in the hat for the next round. The fact we are away isn't a problem as we will be preparing them just like the first-team and hopefully they will get an extra buzz from that.”
