A Brilliant Win - Hopkins

Sphinx Boss On Win At Shepshed

Coventry Sphinx manager Luke Hopkins described his side’s 2-1 win at Shepshed Dynamo as “a brilliant win”.

Sphinx went into the game on the back of a 6-1 FA Vase hammering at Westfields but responded superbly with goals from Matty Fowler and Rickie Cutting cancelling out an goal for the Leicestershire side.

Hopkins told the Sphinx website: “This was a brilliant win, the lads worked very hard and were up against it for half an hour with nine men. ”We started slow and it was hard to play any kind of football on the pitch, perhaps we are a little spoilt with Sphinx Drive. We conceded from a set piece and it was a sloppy goal where we switched off, but it was a matter of a couple minutes before we were level through Matty Fowler, following a corner when the ball came in from Ash Cain and Fowler powered home a header.

“Five minutes later, we kicked on and Rickie Cutting scored with a awkward volley and a goal to go with his Man of the Match performance.  Second half and two sending offs later, we parked the bus in front of the goal and had a few break away encounters in the Shepshed half but 90% of the play was in our half.

“I thought the lads were brilliant and we certainly got an answer to last week’s question of who wants to stand up and be counted to kick us back up the league now the cups are gone until next year.”
