Evandro Denies Corinthians

Evandro denied Corinthians the chance to draw level with Campeonato leaders Atletico Mineiro as his last-gasp goal forced a 1-1 draw for Coritiba.

The second-placed side were moments away from claiming all three points and matching Mineiro at the summit thanks to Felipe's 41st-minute goal but, deep into stoppage time, Evandro connected with Rafhael Lucas' cross to ensure a share of the spoils remained at the Estadio Couto Pereira.

Improving Sao Paulo crept towards the top three with a third win from four games. Former AC Milan star Alexandre Pato brought up his fifth goal of the season on the stroke of half-time against Cruzeiro and the 1-0 victory meant the Soberano closed to within five points of first place.

Fluminense were unable to climb the table, however, as they slumped to a 2-1 defeat at surprise package Chapecoense.

Edson (29) would reply to Bruno Rangel's 27th-minute opener but when on-loan Londrina forward Lucas Gomes was sent off in the 90th minute, ninth-placed Chapecoense capitalised. The 33-year-old Rangel continued his hot streak by adding a fourth goal in three games, this time from the penalty spot.

Palmeiras thrust themselves into a four-way tie for fourth-place by thrashing their hosts Vasco da Gama 4-1 in Rio de Janeiro.

Leandro Pereira lit the touchpaper on a dominant display for the Alviverde with a fourth-minute opener, assisted by Arouca, with Dudu (18) and Victor Ramos (35) putting the game out of Vasco's reach before the break.

Just in case there was any doubt, Leandro grabbed goal number four by converting Robinho's pass in the 55th minute and the home side finally sprang into life to grab a consolation on 69 minutes, Duvier Riascos of Colombia turning in Serginho's assist.

A solitary goal from Marcelo Cirino boosted struggling Flamengo to a 1-0 triumph at Goias, while out-of-form Santos had a rare day to remember after beating basement boys Joinville 2-0 at Vila Belmiro.

Both goals were scored in the first half and by the same player, 18-year-old striker Gabriel, who grabbed the opener on four minutes before rubber-stamping the win with a second successful finish in the 18th minute.

Elsewhere, mid-table outfits Ponte Preta and Internacional shared a goalless draw at the Estadio Moises Lucarelli.
