A former professional North American soccer player says he has no regrets about coming out of the closet letting people know he is gay.

David Testo, who last played in the Major League Soccer with Columbus six years ago, told a Canadian radio station that teammates, family and friends knew of his homosexuality but that he was afraid to go public with the news.

"It's like carrying around a secret, you know, and carrying around luggage and just never being allowed to be yourself," Testo said in the interview which aired on Thursday.

Testo played last year for the Montreal Impact in the now defunct USSF Division 2 Professional League.

He scored one goal and had four assists in two seasons (2004, 2005) with the Columbus Crew.
