Columbus Crew's hopes of making the play-offs in the MLS are over after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Chicago Fire.
Things started well for the Crew, who went ahead in the 13th minute through Adam Jahn, but two goals in four second-half minutes put Chicago in front.
Michael Parkhurst put through his own net in the 53rd minute and then Michael de Leeuw struck soon after for the Fire.
Jahn scored a stunning equaliser in the 80th minute and the Crew pushed for a winner in a bid to keep their hopes of extending their season alive, but they came up short.
Colorado Rapids went to the top of the Western Conference with a 2-1 win over San Jose Earthquakes, whose play-off hopes are also eliminated.
Kevin Doyle scored twice for the Rapids, his first seven minutes before the break and his second - which turned out to be the winner - from the spot in the 73rd minute after Chris Wondolowski had levelled for the Earthquakes with a penalty of his own.
