Jamaican forward Omar Cummings, who helped the Colorado Rapids win the 2010 Major League Soccer title, was traded to the Houston Dynamo on Sunday for American midfielder Nathan Sturgis.

Cummings, a 30-year-old striker, has seven goals in 28 matches for the Jamaican national team. The "Reggae Boyz" have advanced to next year's final round of North American qualifying for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

Cummings has 39 career goals for Colorado, 14 of them in the Rapids' championship season.

Colorado, which missed the MLS playoffs this year for the first time since 2009, sent away Cummings and allowed Conor Casey to leave for Philadelphia since obtaining US playmaker Edson Buddle from the Los Angeles Galaxy.

Sturgis, 25, joins his sixth MLS squad after stints in Los Angeles, Real Salt Lake, Seattle, Toronto and Houston.
