Colchester United boss Geraint Williams accepted that his side had been well below their best during the 2-1 defeat at Coventry City.
The U's cause was not helped by both Kevin Watson and Richard Garcia limping off during the first half, but Williams refused to use that as an excuse.
He said: "I think that was one of our worst performances this season. I didn't think there was much in the game.
"To be fair Coventry made the best of their two chances and got the two goals.
"To have three goals from a game of so few chances is quite amazing, it could have been 0-0.
"We know we have played better than that this year. What we said in the dressing room is that while we haven't played well, we should have come away with a point."
