Colchester United defender John White admitted that his side had let themselves down badly in the 5-1 home thrashing at the hands of Coventry City.
The U's have already been relegated from the Championship and with just pride to play for, put in a dismal display against the Sky Blues at Layer Road.
White told The Gazette: "It's been the story of our season, not being able to hold on to a lead.
"Then for Coventry to go on and then score five goals was devastating for everyone involved. It's down to us and we wanted to go out and play for pride.
"I think we have to stand up and be counted and take responsibility, which is what we haven't been able to do all season and that is why we're down where we are."
