Vernon keen on U's future

Striker Scott Vernon is hoping to remain with Colchester United next season, despite being linked with a move away from the U's. The 25-year-old scored just four times for the U's in the season just ended and spent a month out on loan at Northampton Town. However, he told the East Anglian Daily Times: "I'm still under contract at Colchester for next season and, as far as I am concerned, that's my next year all sorted out. "If things change in the meantime, so be it. But I will be trying to cement my position in the team for next season, when hopefully we can get off to a better start. "Without such a poor start last season, then we would have made the play-offs."
