U's get stadium go-ahead

Work on Colchester United's new stadium should start early in 2007 after proposals were unanimously approved by Colchester Borough Council on Monday.
The U's have spent their entire history at Layer Road, but the ground's current capacity of just over 6,000 is insufficient now that the club is in the Championship.
Robert Davidson, the Leader of Colchester Borough Council, said: "I'm absolutely delighted with the way the vote went.
"It was a unanimous decision and a momentous day for Colchester.
"A lot of hard work has gone into making this a viable financial case for the residents of Colchester.
"Colchester Borough Council, working with the Colchester United Community Sports Trust, Colchester United Football Club and Colchester2020 will now work to make the stadium a reality. This is a great day for Colchester."
