U's capture Danns

Colchester United boss Phil Parkinson has persuaded Blackburn Rovers midfielder Neil Danns to return to Layer Road on a permanent basis.

Danns scored four times in 13 games during an impressive two-month loan spell with the U's earlier in the season and jumped at the chance to make the move permanent after the clubs agreed a nominal fee for the transfer.

The 22-year-old has agreed a deal running until the end of next season and is looking forward to the challenge of helping Colchester climb the League One table.

"After my successful spell here a couple of months ago I went back to Blackburn," he told the club's official website. "I didn't really get the chance I was hoping for so I have been playing for the reserves, then Phil offered me the chance to come and join up with the boys permanently.

"I had no doubts or anything, I am so glad to be back and hopefully I can start where I left off. I really enjoyed my time here, there were some big games, it gave me a lot of experience and I think that has benefited me.

"I have come back a more confident player, I know my own ability and proved to myself I can do it in the League. Hopefully I can come back and get my head focussed on the game, get the best for me and get the best for Colchester United Football Club."

Danns came through the ranks at Ewood Park but made just three Premiership appearances for Rovers, although he gained first-team experience during loan spells with Blackpool and Hartlepool United last season.
