U's swoop for Barker

Colchester United have signed Cardiff City left-back Chris Barker on loan until the end of the year.

The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Ninian Park and could seal a permanent switch to Layer Road if he impresses.

Barker joined the Bluebirds in the summer of 2002 from Barnsley and has made nearly 200 first-team appearances for City.

U's boss Geraint Williams told BBC Essex: "Chris is a player I've admired for some time.

"We've played against Cardiff in the past and he's got lots of experience, so to get him in is great news."
