Colchester United have made their first move in the transfer window after landing Luton Town defender Chris Coyne.
The 29-year-old centre-half has joined the U's for an undisclosed yet club record fee.
Coyle had been the captain of cash-strapped Luton and was part of the side that held Liverpool to a 1-1 FA Cup third round draw last weekend.
The Brisbane-born defender made 252 appearances during six-and-a-half years with the Hatters.
He started his career in British football with West Ham before spending one season in Scotland with Dundee.
