U's set to start Izzet talks

Colchester United are keen to start new contract talks with long-serving midfielder Kemal Izzet.

U's manager Aidy Boothroyd hopes the 29-year-old, who has been with the club for almost nine years, will pen a new deal shortly.

The former Watford boss said: "I plan to sit down with Kem and offer him a new contract as I think he deserves that.

"I think he is a good character at the club and he has an opinion and I like that. It is only right that that gets rewarded.

"He has been here a long time now and whoever comes and goes manager-wise, he has always got in the team and that tells you a lot about him."
