Colchester United boss Geraint Williams is frustrated that his side will have to play the next three games without record signing Steven Gillespie due to suspension.
The 23-year-old striker was sent off in the 2-0 loss at Crewe Alexandra last weekend and the U's have eventually decided not to appeal against the red card.
Williams told the club's official website: "We would have liked to have appealed, because we felt the challenge was without malice.
"But the directive this season is that if both feet leave the ground, it is likely to be a red card.
"Appealing in those instances would be deemed frivolous and an extra game added on.
"Given the rules in place, it would have been very difficult to win the appeal, despite the lack of malice in the challenge."
