U's make swoop for McLeod

Colchester United have signed Charlton Athletic striker Izale McLeod on a month's loan.

The 23-year-old has struggled to make his mark with the Addicks since his big-money move from MK Dons last summer, scoring just once in 23 appearances this season.

However, the former Derby County youngster had previously bagged 60 goals in 135 appearances for the Dons, where he formed a prolific partnership with Clive Platt, who moved to Layer Road last summer.

U's boss Geraint Williams told the club's official website: "We've suffered lately with attacking players missing from the squad, so we thought it was essential to get another body in.

"Izale has formed a profitable partnership with Clive Platt before and has a good goalscoring record, so hopefully will score some goals in his time here."
