U's keen on Barker

Colchester United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Cardiff City defender Chris Barker.

The 26-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Ninian Park in recent times and may be tempted to try his luck at Layer Road.

Barker joined the Bluebirds in the summer of 2002 from Barnsley and has made nearly 200 first-team appearances for City.

Meanwhile, U's boss Geraint Williams has warned his players to buck their ideas up after three defeats out of three this season.

The Welshman said: "We've three defeats in three now and the Championship is proving to be a tough learning curve for us and we are not learning quick enough.

"We have to re-group, start learning these lessons and work on getting things right."
