Colchester United chairman Robbie Cowling was delighted with the way the club's first game at their new stadium went.
The U's lost 2-1 to Athletic Bilbao at their new Weston Homes Community Stadium in Monday's pre-season friendly which had to be delayed for 15 minutes to allow all the fans in to the ground.
Cowling told the Gazette: "I think the night went fantastically well for us. The stadium seemed to have a good atmosphere and I'm sure it will get better and better.
"I hope we can have many more here for the Huddersfield Town game in a couple of weeks' time.
"We were pleased with the amount of people who came but we'd have expected this amount of interest for the first game at the new stadium, especially with the calibre of the opposition.
"The team looked very good and I think the game will have helped the side gel even more."
