U's fail with Walker appeal

Colchester United have failed in their bid to extend West Ham United goalkeeper Jimmy Walker's loan stay at the Community Stadium.

The 35-year-old has played in 16 games for the U's during his three-month spell with the club but his emergency loan period has now come to a close.

Colchester had hoped to extend the arrangement until the end of the season but the Football League have ruled against the club's appeal.

"Despite extensive dialogue with the Football League, we've been unable to win our appeal against their initial ruling," said chief executive Steve Bradshaw.

"We felt that we'd got the paperwork in on time for a standard loan deal until the end of the season, but have received a letter from the League, explaining that they stand by their original judgement.

"Whilst disappointed to have lost out on the appeal, we accept the League's judgement as one of its member clubs."
