U's expect Iwelumo exit

Colchester United striker Chris Iwelumo looks set to leave the club after rejecting the offer of a new contract.

The 28-year-old netted 18 goals for the U's in the Championship this term and has been linked with a switch to Charlton Athletic.

U's chief executive Marie Partner told the club's official website: "The club has made every effort to put a competitive package on the table to Chris during the negotiations.

"However, he has turned down the club's offer and we await to hear further news of his plans."

Boss Geraint Williams added in the Essex Gazette: "There will be clubs getting in touch with him to see what his plans are and we understand that.

"The club have done their best with their offers and now we have to wait and see."
