U's deny Elokobi offers

Colchester United boss Geraint Williams says the club are yet to field any offers for left-back George Elokobi.

The 21-year-old Cameroonian handed in a transfer request at Layer Road earlier this season and has been left out of the club's last few fixtures, with Reading and Fulham both linked with Elokobi.

However, Williams confirmed: "There have been a couple of phone calls, but no firm bids for him."

Meanwhile, U's chairman Robbie Cowling has pledged funds in the January transfer window to boost Williams' struggling squad.

Chief executive Marie Partner told the Evening Gazette: "Robbie Cowling has not outlined a particular sum of money for Geraint to spend.

"What he has said is come to me with a list of players you would like to bring to the club.

"When we can strike a deal, we'll bring in those players who are on Geraint's wish-list."
