U's complete Reid raid

Colchester United manager Geraint Williams has added the former Barnsley defender Paul Reid to his first-team squad.

The 26-year-old, who left Oakwell earlier this week, is the third new arrival at Layer Road this summer following the acquisitions of Matt Lockwood and Matt Heath

Reid started his career at Carlisle United before moving to Rangers in a £600,000 deal eight years ago.

He failed to make a first-team appearance for the SPL side though and, after loan spells with Preston and Northampton, signed a permanent deal with the Cobblers in June 2003.

Reid was on the move again 12 months later though, signing for Barnsley, and he went on to find the net seven times in 128 appearances during his four seasons at Oakwell.
