U's close in on new manager

Colchester United are ready to draw up a short-list of candidates to replace sacked former boss Geraint Williams as manager. The U's parted company with Williams last week following a disappointing start to life back in League One and chairman Robbie Cowling has revealed that applications from prospective new managers have been flooding in. "The applications have been coming in thick and fast over the past couple of weeks and I will be sitting down and taking a good look at them over the weekend," he told the club's official website. "That was always the intention after Geraint left and I think two weeks is enough time for any potential candidate to put his application in."
