U's chief left disappointed

Colchester United chairman Robbie Cowling has admitted that he was disappointed by his side's failure to mount a promotion challenge this season.

The U's eventually finished 12th in the table, having been near the foot of the table before Paul Lambert took charge.

Cowling told The Gazette: "I have to be honest and say that I've been really disappointed with the season just gone.

"I think we had a good enough squad to have done a lot better. Maybe the move to the new stadium was a factor, I'm not sure.

"I think the relegation also had an impact on the team. What we have seen this year has been the best away form in the club's history - and quite possibly the worst at home.

"There are lots of things to consider, but what I do know is that everyone has done everything to try and make it a success."
