Solano training with U's

Colchester United have announced that former Newcastle United and Aston Villa star Nolberto Solano is training with the League One high-flyers.

Aidy Boothroyd's outfit currently occupy fourth place in the table and he is casting his eye over the right-winger.

The 35-year-old has been plying his trade with Universitario de Deportes in his native Peru and also played for West Ham United in the Premier League.

Speaking to the club's official website, Boothroyd said: "Nobby is a player that I've got a lot of respect for.

"He has played for some fantastic teams and is a top-class player. I tried to sign him for Watford but he went off to America.

"He now plays for a team in Peru who have just won the championship and I asked him to come over and see if he's still got what he had and to see if he likes us."
