Colchester United manager Geraint Williams has decided to release Danny Granville and Aidan Davison following the club's relegation to League One.

In addition, defensive duo Adam Virgo and Bela Balogh have returned to Celtic and MTK Hungaria respectively after spending the 2007-08 campaign on loan at Layer Road.

Granville made only 15 starts for the U's this season, and none since the turn of the year, following his arrival from Crystal Palace last summer.

Goalkeeper Davison, who is 40 on Sunday, made over 100 starts for Colchester in his four seasons with the club.

United have now parted company with nine players from this season's squad.
