Platt committed to Colchester

Colchester United striker Clive Platt has pledged his future to the club by signing a new, extended contract with the U's.

The 30-year-old has only been with United for one season, scoring eight goals in 44 appearances as they were relegated back to League One.

U's chairman Robbie Cowling told the club's official website: "We have fended off a £400,000 bid from one of our League One rivals for Clive and he has now committed himself to our club by signing a new improved and extended contract.

"Within our means we are doing all we can to attract the very best players and staff to Colchester United.

"We are also doing our best to hold on to our players, who all too frequently are attracting interest from other clubs."
