Striker Kevin Lisbie is desperate to earn a contract with Colchester United, following his release by Charlton Athletic.
The 28-year-old was released by the Addicks following their relegation from the Premier League and is bidding to impress at Layer Road.
He told the Colchester Gazette: "I wouldn't have played for Colchester if I didn't have an interest in playing for the club, so hopefully the manager is interested.
"All through the summer I've not had a club.
"There have been teams that have been half interested, but Colchester called me and asked me to come and play a game for them, so hopefully I can repay the favour to them."
Lisbie had been with Charlton for more than a decade, having been loaned out to Gillingham, Reading, QPR, Norwich City and Derby County.
