Lambert rues dire home form

Colchester United manager Paul Lambert has blamed his side's terrible home form for their failure to make an immediate return to the Championship.

The U's are stranded in mid-table after losing 11 times at the Weston Homes Community Stadium, the first season at their new ground.

Lambert admitted: "Our away form's been terrific and, if we'd won half of our home games, we'd probably be right up there but we haven't.

"That's basically what's cost us but the main objective was to keep the club in League One, which I was instructed to do.

"They've done that by a good margin and we've given the play-offs a bit of a fright. We'll do everything we can to try and rebuild this football club and try and drive it on.

"The group of lads who've kept the team in the league should be congratulated for what they've done. It's been a big, big effort from them to get us out of the depression that we were in."
