Lambert backs accused Reid

Colchester United manager Paul Lambert has backed Paul Reid after his defender was accused of leaving Matt McNeil concussed during the controversial clash against Stockport County.

The Hatters have threatened to take legal action against Reid with incensed boss Jim Gannon saying he will report Reid to the police.

However, Lambert has tried to play down the incident, insisting: "The two of them have challenged for the ball and the lad's got there before him.

"Reid has come over and headed the back of his head but hopefully the lad is okay."
