Izzet earns U's extension

Midfielder Kemal Izzet has signed a new two-year contract to keep him at Colchester United until the summer of 2012.

The 29-year-old has been with the U's since March 2001 and has racked up more than 350 appearances for the Essex club.

Boss Aidy Boothroyd told the club's official website: "There is always a danger with contracts and that they might run out, but I have said to the lads 'where else would you rather be at the moment?'.

"I haven't come here just to talk about good times in the Layer Road era, I've come to get us into the Championship and beyond that.

"It's a journey we are all on and so far we're at the very beginning."
