Colchester United boss Geraint Williams admitted he was relieved to pick up his first home win of the season at the fifth attempt following Wednesday's 4-2 defeat of QPR.

A Mikele Leigertwood own goal and further strikes from Mark Yeates, Kemal Izzet and Clive Platt handed the U's the points and left Williams in upbeat mood.

"I'm sure it was a fantastic game for the neutral and great entertainment, but it was important that we got the three points," he admitted.

"We could have scored more goals but they were bright as well.

"We will work on our defending, but I would rather win 4-2 than 1-0."
